EQUIPMENT Q: I plan to ride just during the day, do I still need lights? A: Front and rear lights must be mounted on the bike at all times. Q: Will mechanical support be available between controls? A: Because of the remote nature of the route there will be very few opportunities to acquire mechanical support commercially. It is imperative that riders assure their bikes are in top condition before attempting the Cascade 1200. Q: Will mechanical support be available at controls? A: There will probably be a few tools and a floor pump at the overnight controls which riders can use. Some of our control volunteers are cyclists who maintain their own bikes and may be able to provide some assistance; though it's expected riders can take care of their own maintenance. Make sure your bike is in good working order before you start the ride and consider bringing some basic repair tools with you. Q: Will I be able to purchase bike supplies at controls? A: The Seattle area has many great bicycle stores - see http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/bike/shops/King.htm and http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/bike/shops/Snohomish.htm for a partial listing. Mark Thomas (Seattle RBA) has a bike store in Redmond - Sammamish Valley Cycle - which will extend its Seattle International Randonneurs discount (15% off most items other than bikes) to Cascade 1200 riders. |
